Teleport Pro Version 1.13 for Windows 95/NT
(c) 1996 Tennyson Maxwell
The fastest, most powerful file-retrieving robot on the Internet.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations! You have obtained the most powerful offline browsing and
file-retrieving tool on the Internet.
Part Swiss Army knife, part chainsaw, Teleport Pro is a fully automated,
multithreaded, link-following, file-retrieving webspider. It will retrieve all
the files you want -- and only the files you want -- from any part of the
Internet. Teleport Pro can also
- Completely download a website, enabling you to "offline browse" the site
at much greater speeds than if you were to browse the site online
- Create an exact duplicate, or "mirror" of a website, complete with
subdirectory structure and all required files
- Search a website for files of a certain type (and even size!)
- Download a list of files from the Internet
- Explore every website linked from a central website
- Search a website for keywords
- Make a list of all pages and files on a website
Want to offline browse a website? Want to grab 400 sound files for a
multimedia presentation? Looking for just the right background graphic? A
list of every web page and file on a shareware site? Found a huge archive of
great graphics -- but donÆt want to wait for each of them to download? Found
a great link site, but donÆt have the time to check out every link?
No more waiting for slow pages to download. No more clicking on links for
hours, only to find garbage at the end of your trail.

NEW IN VERSION 1.1
==================
These are just some of the exciting new features implemented in version 1.1--
- Java applet support -- Teleport Pro can now retrieve and use Java applets!
- New exploration depths -- set depth levels within the starting domain, and
within external domains. Nearly unlimited search levels!
- Local file retrieval -- you can now use Teleport Pro to explore files on
local hard drives and network drives. Create your own starting pages in
HTML and launch them from Teleport!
- Project Scheduling properties -- now schedule projects to run whenever
you like, for as long as you like, using the Windows 95 System Agent or
other scheduling utility
- Greatly expanded and indexed Help file
- Improved "lenient" HTML parsing -- Teleport now finds links despite most common
authoring errors (like forgetting trailing quotes) and uncommon HTML tags
like "base href"
- Improved socket communication -- browser-style querying virtually guarantees
access to formerly "robot-proofed" sites
- New Retry-On-Incomplete option -- guarantees accurate file delivery from even
the most stubborn servers
======================
A NOTE ON JAVA SUPPORT
======================
When you run SETUP to install Teleport Pro for the first time, it will create a
"bin" directory in the folder where you install Teleport Pro. This bin will
contain two files, CLASSES.ZIP and JAVAP.EXE, needed for Teleport to retrieve
Java applets.
DO NOT UNZIP the CLASSES.ZIP file!
=======================
32-BIT WINSOCK REQUIRED
=======================
At this time, Teleport Pro requires that you use a 32-bit winsock dll for your
Internet connections. In most cases, the Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking system
will satisfy this requirement. Some third-party winsocks, such as Trumpet, are
also compatible with Teleport Pro. If you are unsure of whether you are using
a 32-bit winsock connection, contact your ISP or the organization that provided
you with your connection software.
Some third-party utilities can convert between a 16-bit winsock and an
application like Teleport Pro that requires a 32-bit connection. One such
program is "connect-WSOCK32", a shareware utility available at
http://vroom.web.de/connect/
=============================
MICROSOFT WINDOWS 95 BUG NOTE
=============================
Microsoft has confirmed that a bug in the Windows 95 operating system may cause
your computer to crash while using the Internet. The bug slowly leaks resources
each time a connection is established to the Internet. Because Teleport Pro
establishes many, many connections to the Internet while running, it is important
that you install Microsoft's bug patch, called KRNLUPD.EXE. The patch can
be found on www.microsoft.com, and also on Tennyson Maxwell's website at
www.tenmax.com.
========================================
MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER 3.0 BUG NOTE
========================================
Microsoft has confirmed that a bug in their Internet Explorer 3.0 Beta 2 causes
other applications' toolbar buttons to display as if disabled. Teleport Pro users
will notice that the Refresh, Start, Pause, Stop, and Abort buttons of those
programs will not appear to function properly if Internet Explorer 3.0 Beta 2 has
been installed (although the buttons will continue to work).
Microsoft has now released the Final Version of Internet Explorer 3.0. This version
corrects the toolbar bug in Beta 2. Tennyson Maxwell strongly encourages users who
still have the Beta 2 version to pick up the final version (it is free) on Microsoft's
website. A link to the proper page can be found on Tennyson Maxwell's home page at
http://www.tenmax.com

INSTALLING OVER PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF TELEPORT PRO
=================================================
No special steps are required. You do not need to uninstall a previous version
of Teleport Pro if it is already installed on your systems. Just follow the
instructions for running the SETUP program in INSTALL.TXT.
If you want to keep your original version of Teleport Pro intact, move it to
another directory, or install this version of Teleport Pro in a different
directory.
=========================
UNINSTALLING TELEPORT PRO
=========================
To uninstall Teleport Pro, simply run "Uninstall Teleport Pro" from your
Start Menu. The uninstall program will erase the program files, registry entries,
and shortcuts related to Teleport Pro from your hard disk. Your project
files and any retrieved files will NOT be erased by the uninstaller.
You can also run the Uninstaller using the Windows 95 "Add/Remove Programs" utility
in the Control Panel. Double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the Control
Panel, then select "Teleport Pro" and press the "Add/Remove" button.
Please note that uninstalling Teleport Pro will not delete files that you have
retrieved using the program.
=====================================
CONVERTING INTERNET MARAUDER PROJECTS
=====================================
You can open Internet Marauder projects (IMP files) using Teleport Pro. Just select
"Internet Marauder Project" in the "Files of Type" combo box in the Open Project
dialog when you open a new project. Teleport Pro will automatically convert the
old project into a Teleport Pro project.
Note, however, that the Teleport Pro database is substantially more complicated than
that of Internet Marauder and, therefore, some information may translate incompletely.
Be sure to use the Refresh command when running the new project for the first time.
Note also that Teleport Pro will save the project as a Teleport Pro project, making
it unusable in Internet Marauder. If you wish to keep your old Internet Marauder
project intact, be sure to use the Save As command to save the new, converted project
under a new name, first.
========================
REGISTERING TELEPORT PRO
========================
Teleport Pro is shareware. You are granted a free license to use this software
40 times, after which the license and the software both expire. If you decide that
you like Teleport Pro -- and we hope that you do! -- you can register it, keep it,
and use it as much as you like. Registering the program is just like buying it.
There are really two good reasons to register Teleport Pro:
1. The program, and your license to use it, expire after you have used it
40 times.
2. Until you register it, Teleport Pro will only retrieve up to 100 files per
project.
For now, registration costs only $39.95 US. And your registration is valid for all
"minor version" upgrades of the Teleport Pro product. This means that your
registration number will work on every upgrade we release until Version 2.0.
In fact, if you send us your email address when you register, weÆll notify you
automatically every time we issue an upgrade.
We can accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover credit cards. We can
also accept checks or money orders drawn on a United States bank, or a foreign bank
with a United States clearing house.
To register Teleport Pro, simply select Register from the Help menu. Teleport Pro
will display the Registration dialog box. There are three options for sending us
your registration information:
Secure Server: Press this button to launch your browser and visit our Secure Server.
Your order will be processed online and you will receive a registration code
immediately! Choose this option for fastest service. You must have a secure browser
(such as Netscape or Microsoft) to use this option. Credit card orders only, please.
CompuServe: If you're a CompuServe member, press this button to launch CompuServe,
then GO SWREG and register program # 12414. Your CompuServe account will be billed
for the account will be billed the cost of registration. We will email your
registration code to your CompuServe address when we receive notice of the order,
usually within a week.
Mail/Email/Fax: Press this button to display the Order Form and print it or save it
to disk. You can then mail or email it to us, or fax it to us. (Our address/fax
number will appear on the form.) If mailing, please enclose your check, money
order, or credit card data. We will email your registration code within two days
of receiving your order.
